Yellu Kolambu (Sesame Curry)

Ingredients

  • White Sesame – 2 tbsp
  • Shallots – 10
  • Garlic cloves – 10
  • Tomato – 1
  • Coriander & Mint leaves – handful each
  • Chili powder – ½ tsp
  • Cumin powder – ½ tsp
  • Coriander powder – 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
  • Tamarind – small lemon size
  • Salt & Oil – as needed

Method

  1. Dry-roast sesame; grind to powder.
  2. Temper mustard, urad dal & curry leaves in oil.
  3. Sauté onions, garlic & tomato.
  4. Add tamarind juice & spices; boil.
  5. Add salt; stir in sesame powder; remove from heat.

Kollu Thuvayal (Horse Gram Chutney)

Ingredients

  • Horse Gram – ½ cup
  • Dried red chilies – 4
  • Tamarind – small lemon size
  • Salt – as needed
  • Coriander leaves – 3 tbsp
  • Curry leaves – 3 sprigs

Method

  1. Roast horse gram & chilies until crisp.
  2. Cool & grind with tamarind juice & salt.
  3. Mix coriander; grind lightly.

Karuppu Ulundhu Sadham

Ingredients

  • Rice – 1 cup
  • Black Urad Dal – ½ cup
  • Grated coconut – ½ cup
  • Garlic – 4 cloves
  • Cumin – 2 tsp
  • Green chilies – 4
  • Salt – as needed

Method

  1. Cook rice & dal until mushy.
  2. Add coconut, chilies & salt.
  3. Serve hot.

Pineapple Pachadi

Ingredients

  • Pineapple – 1
  • Ripe banana – 3
  • Turmeric powder – ½ tbsp
  • Chili powder – 1 tbsp
  • Grated coconut – ½ shell
  • Mustard seeds – ¼ tbsp
  • Dried chilies – 3
  • Curry leaves & coconut oil – as needed
  • Curd – 3 tbsp

Method

  1. Cook fruit with water, turmeric & chili.
  2. Add coconut paste; boil.
  3. Temper mustard, chilies & curry leaves; pour.
  4. Stir in curd; serve.
